Abstract

|
The coexistence of pheochromocytoma and renal artery stenosis has been recognized since 1958, but it is rare.
We report a case of renovascular hypertension associated with left adrenal pheochromocytoma. Renovascular hypertension was confirmed by aortogram and peripheral plasma renin activity and renal vein renin activities which was lateralized to the
left
kidney. It was suggested that catecholamines leakage from pheochromocytoma result in functional spasm of renal artery and renovascular hypertension. Surgical removal of the functional pheochyromocytoma restored the postoperative plasma renin
activity,
uninary vanillylmandelic acid and blood pressure to normal.
